Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi, the chief of Shri Rashtriya Rajput Karni Sena, was fatally shot by three assailants at his residence in Jaipur. In response, Gogamedi’s bodyguard engaged in retaliatory firing, resulting in the death of one of the attackers, Naveen Singh Shekhawat. Surveillance footage from Gogamedi’s home captured the moment when two armed men opened fire on him, while two of his associates sought cover. One of Gogamedi’s associates sustained injuries in the attack.
Jaipur Commissioner of Police Biju George Joseph stated, “Prima facie it seems that three people shot Gogamedi at his house in Shyam Nagar today.” He added, “One of the assailants was also shot dead in retaliatory firing… A friend of Gogamedi was critically injured while his personal security officer was shot in the leg.”
Following the incident, Rohit Godara, a member of the gang associated with incarcerated criminal Lawrence Bishnoi, claimed responsibility for the killing. Gogamedi was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead. Supporters of Shri Rashtriya Rajput Karni Sena and its splinter group Shri Rajput Karni Sena are demanding swift action against the perpetrators. Gogamedi had reportedly been receiving threats for a year and had requested increased security from the police.
Narayan Singh Divrala, the Jaipur district president of Shri Rajput Karni Sena, emphasized, “We want immediate arrest of the accused and want them hanged. We are not going to accept the body as long as our demands are not met.” Protests by members of the organization were also held in Jaipur.
Rajyavardhan Rathore, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Member of Parliament from Jaipur, asserted on Tuesday that the newly elected government in the state would promptly address the culprits behind the recent crime. The BJP secured victory in the Rajasthan Assembly elections on Sunday.
In a tweet, Rathore urged everyone to maintain peace and patience during this challenging time. He assured that the lawbreakers would be apprehended swiftly and mentioned being in constant communication with the police. Rathore conveyed his prayers for peace to Gogamedi ji’s soul and expressed a hope for strength for the bereaved family, supporters, and well-wishers in this moment of sorrow.
