Live Updates from Winter Session: Prime Minister Modi greeted with applause upon his arrival for the parliamentary party meeting.

Tensions escalated in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday as Union Home Minister Amit Shah attributed the Pakistan-occupied Kashmir issue to former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru while responding to the debate on the Jammu and Kashmir Reservation (Amendment) Bill, 2023, and the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, 2023. His statement stirred controversy, prompting Opposition leaders to stage a walkout from Parliament.

The Lok Sabha approved both Jammu and Kashmir Bills yesterday following nearly two days of discussions between the ruling and Opposition factions. Today, Shah is set to present these Bills in the Rajya Sabha.

In the Rajya Sabha, the Bill aimed at repealing the Indian Post Office Act, 1898, and consolidating and amending the laws concerning post offices in India passed through a voice vote, despite the Opposition expressing reservations about certain provisions.

Simultaneously, on the fourth day in the Upper House, a short-duration discussion on the economic situation in the country will persist. The legislative agenda notes, “Further discussion on the ‘Economic Situation in the country,’ initiated by Derek O’Brien on 5th December 2023.
