IIT Roorkee publishes an in-depth research report on solutions for ‘Advanced Grid-Scale Energy Storage.’

The research project involves a partnership between MNRE and IIT Roorkee, aimed at facilitating well-informed decision-making and driving transformative initiatives within India’s renewable energy sector.

The ‘Advanced Grid-Scale Energy Storage Technologies’ study has been initiated by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee. Led by Prof Arun Kumar, the comprehensive research was unveiled by BS Bhalla, Secretary of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE). The release event, held at Atal Akshaya Urja Bhawan, MNRE, New Delhi, witnessed the presence of Dr Ajay Mathur, Director General of the International Solar Alliance, and Prof KK Pant, Director of IIT Roorkee, on Wednesday.

The collaborative undertaking between MNRE and IIT Roorkee aims to facilitate informed decision-making and drive transformative initiatives within the country’s renewable energy sector.

As per a press release from IIT Roorkee, the research aims to investigate a variety of grid-scale energy storage solutions vital for India’s sustainable energy trajectory. It delves into key facets of the power sector, underscoring the necessity for a robust and sustainable energy framework in India.

The announcement goes on to mention that the research presents practical recommendations to augment the integration of renewable energy and enhance the efficiency of grid-scale energy storage, representing a noteworthy stride toward realizing India’s renewable energy objectives.

During the event, Dr. Ajay Mathur praised India’s global leadership in adopting renewable energy and underscored the pivotal role of energy storage in ensuring grid stability and facilitating the deployment of renewable energy.
